FWD Takaful Berhad (formerly known as HSBC Amanah Takaful (Malaysia) Berhad) (“FWD Takaful”) signed a Sponsorship Agreement (”SA”) with the National Sports Council (“NSC”) to formalise the company’s RM5 million sponsorship towards supporting the development of the country’s remarkable para-athletes. FWD Takaful is the first Malaysian Takaful provider to pledge sponsorship for the para-athletes and collaborate with NSC to motivate, empower, and shine a spotlight on the Malaysian para-athletes.
The sponsorship covers costs of sports equipment, training, attire, travel and other related expenses for the Malaysian Paralympic team ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. FWD Takaful will also be providing Takaful coverage for all Paralympic athletes during the sponsorship.
“At FWD Takaful, we value those that dare to be different and strive for excellence regardless of their physical limitations. This sponsorship ensures that these para-athletes are given support to train and compete at their full potential,” said Salim Majid Zain, Chief Executive Officer of FWD Takaful.
“This sponsorship reflects FWD Takaful’s commitment to promote inclusivity, including providing Takaful protection for the Malaysian para-athletes as part of our unwavering support in fulfilling their dreams. It’s an honour for us to be part of this initiative, which is in line with our Community Care vision of empowering people to live fulfilled lives," said Salim.
FWD Takaful’s sponsorship will include programmes to groom the athletes nationwide and identify potential athletes to send to international tournaments such as Kejohanan Sirkit Kebangsaan. There will also be events to discover new national para-athletes such as Karnival Sukan Para and Kem Pembangunan Bakat. More than 2,000 para-athletes will be taking part and competing in these events.
Dato’ Ahmad Shapawi Ismail signed the SA on behalf of NSC, while Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was present to witness the signing ceremony held at the Kampung Pandan Paralympic Sports Excellence Centre.
YB Syed Saddiq Syed expressed his gratitude to FWD Takaful, “We greatly appreciate the contribution that FWD Takaful has made towards the advancement of the Paralympics in Malaysia. Our para-athletes will be glad to know that a company like FWD Takaful has a mission to empower, enhance, and support the disabled through developmental initiatives. We are certain this will motivate them in their quest to continuously strive for excellence,”.
The signing ceremony today follows FWD Takaful’s mock cheque presentation of the RM5 million contribution at the launch of the National Sports Month at KL Sports City on 12 October 2019.
