Salim Majid Zain

Chief Executive Officer

Salim is our Chief Executive Officer, leading the overall strategy and development at FWD Takaful. Prior to joining us he was CEO of a start-up Takaful brand/Operator becoming instrumental in accelerating its business growth. With a highly respected career spanning more than two decades, Salim’s leadership skills have been the guiding force – from adopting new technology through to high-level change management and the development of people. With a goal-orientated focus, and a track record of impressive commercial success, he now sets the direction for all of us at FWD Takaful – in doing so creating an exciting new Takaful opportunity for Malaysians.

Wan Ahmad Najib Wan Ahmad Lotfi

Chief Strategy & Digital Distribution Officer

Najib heads up the strategic, governance and digital distribution functions across all our business channels – with innovative and workable solutions for our brand. Najib was previously at the helm of a number of high-level industry projects including more recently launching a new Takaful brand into the market. From his experience and insights through to his track record and published work, Najib is a highly respected industry figurehead and we’re proud that he now brings this expertise to FWD Takaful.

Yeoh Eng Hun

Chief Financial Officer

Eng Hun leads the Finance team of FWD Takaful. He has 20 years of experience in the insurance industry in the areas of Actuarial, Risk Management, Operations, Strategy and Products. He is a Certified Practising Accountant (Australia), a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, and a CFA® charterholder.

Mohd Radzuan Mohamed

Chief Risk Officer

Radzuan is accountable for the corporate governance areas of risk. He plays a critical part in implementing various aspects of risk management from risk engineering, enterprise risk management, risk adjusters and risk advisor & consultants. Radzuan has over 20 years of industry experience and he is a familiar figure in the risk management fraternity. He possesses a long track record of senior risk management positions with multinational insurance brands. He holds a Bachelor in Risk Management from Glasgow Caledonian University and Bachelor in Insurance and Risk Management from the MARA Institute of Technology.

Alex Siew

Chief Technology and Operations Officer

Alex leads the technology and operations functions to ensure operational readiness for the rapid expansion of FWD Takaful. He is also driving digital transformation to support the growth agenda as well as implementing strategic approach for the new generation of customers.

Alex is vastly experienced in spearheading business transformation, corporate solutions, operations and digital strategy. He holds a Master of Science in Information Technology from University Malaya and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Management from HELP Institute - University of London.

Muhammad Devan Abdullah

Chief Compliance Officer

Devan leads and oversees the overall compliance governance framework to ensure we remain in line with Shariah and regulatory requirements as the business grows. Prior to his current role, he was the Head of Corporate Office and Customer Care of a leading multi-line insurer, responsible for safeguarding compliance and regulatory requirements, notably corporate governance, ethics and outsourcing. The breadth of his experience spans operations, compliance, risk and Shariah.

Wan Mohd Fadhlan

Chief Agency Officer

Wan Fadhlan leads the Agency Distribution team and plays a critical part in driving and steering the agency business of FWD Takaful. He has 15 years of experience in the insurance and takaful industry in the areas of Agency Management and Training, Agency Strategy and Product Marketing. He holds a Bachelor in Business Administration (Finance) and is a Certified Financial Planner, Islamic Financial Planner and Certified Agency Manager.

Sharifah Zarina Syed Osman

Chief Product Officer

Sharifah leads the Product and Pricing team and is responsible for product & pricing deliverables for all distribution channels. Sharifah is vastly experienced in actuarial valuation and pricing, product proposition as well as product management. Sharifah earned a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Illinois.

Lisa Lew

Chief Human Resource Officer

Lisa leads the HR team in supporting the people’s agenda to enhance our employee experience in line with the Group HR strategies and country business requirements. She is vastly experienced in areas of Talent Acquisition, Compensation & Benefits, Performance Management, Talent Management & Development, Employer Branding, Employee Relations and Employee Engagement. She was attached to the FWD Technology & Innovation Malaysia before transferring to the company to helm the role of CHRO.

Prior to that, her HR experience has been with various industries including Accounting, Assurance & Advisory, Banking, Investment, Shared Services & Outsourcing, Information Technology and FMCG. She holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Wollongong and a professional degree with the Institute Chartered Secretaries & Administrators.

Eng Yuan Choong

Appointed Actuary

A seasoned insurance professional, Yuan Choong is an actuary with more than two decades of experience in the local insurance and takaful sectors in Malaysia and Indonesia. Yuan Choong ensures that the business is conducted on a sound financial basis within the reasonable expectations of the policyholders. He plays a leadership role in various companies that range from start-up operators to market leaders. He has been a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (US) since 2003 and graduated from the University of Manitoba with Bachelor of Commerce in Actuarial Science and Finance.

Yoga Adrian

Head of Internal Audit

Yoga leads the team to carry out independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve operations. Yoga has completed the professional exams by the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) and has a Certificate in Islamic Law from the International Islamic University Malaysia.

Chong Wen Han

Head of Partnership

Han heads up the Partnership department, which includes the origination and execution of all strategies to manage existing partners as well as acquiring new partners. He has 15 years of experience in the financial services industry and a proven track record of success in sales management, partnership and business development area. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing & Management from the Curtin University of Technology.

Adil Ahmad


Mr Adil Ahmad was appointed as Independent Non-Executive Director and Chairman on 16 January 2021.

He has over 30 years of senior international financial sector experience. His financial career began at ANZ Grindlays Bank Pakistan. Mr Adil was the Director and Head of Global Islamic Finance of ANZ Investment Bank in London from 1993 to 1997, and thereafter Executive, Group Strategy of ANZ Banking Group Ltd in Melbourne from 1997 to 2000. He assumed the position as Chief Executive Officer of ANZ Banking Group Ltd Vietnam from 2000 to 2005 and led it to become the leading retail bank and the leading foreign bank in Vietnam. His final executive role was as CEO of Kuwait International Bank, Kuwait, where he led a very successful two-dimensional conversion of the bank from conventional to Islamic, and from a limited license real estate bank to a full commercial bank.

Mr Adil retired to Malaysia in 2010.  He is currently an Independent Director at HSBC Amanah Bank Berhad and FIDE Forum. He also provides consultancy and financial training to institutions in ASEAN and the Middle East.

Mr Adil holds a Masters in Business Administration (Finance & Accounting) and Bachelor of Arts in Economics, both from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York.

James Loh

Independent Non-Executive Director

Mr James Sinn Yuk Loh was appointed on 22 March 2019. He is an independent director and an Audit Committee member of FWD Singapore Pte. Ltd.. James, founder and former CEO of JL Capital Ltd, has more than 40 years investment experience. At JL Capital he oversaw the launch of eight funds, managing more than US$1 billion in assets.

He began his career with Salomon Brothers in New York.

He’s since worked across various investments banks across the globe – including nearly ten years at the Union Bank of Switzerland (now UBS AG) in Singapore.

By 1999 he’d joined Barclays Capital and was responsible for all Barclays’ trading activities across the Asia Pacific.

As Chairman of the Investment Committee at the University of Singapore, he entirely revamped their investment process. His work directly contributed to the university growing its endowment fund to the current market value in excess of USD 7 billion.

Beyond JL Capital, James has been actively involved in various organizations including co-founding Leap Philanthropy, a non-profit which aims to reduce poverty in Indochina.

James graduated from the University of Chicago with a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance.

Binayak Dutta

Executive Director

Mr Binayak was appointed on 2 November 2020 as an Executive Director. He  is the Managing Director, Emerging Markets and Group Chief Distribution Officer of FWD Group, overseeing FWD Group’s life businesses in South East Asia as well as the growth and development of FWD’s distribution channels across FWD Group. He has over 20 years’ experience in the Asian insurance industry with an impressive track record demonstrating transformative change and results within multiple distribution channels across the region. He has led several multi-national insurers through a range of diverse phases from start-ups and acquisition to mergers and realignments. Binayak began his career in banking and holds a Bachelor of Economics and Master of Business Administration.

Muhammad Ali Jinnah bin Ahmad

Independent Non-Executive Director

Mr Muhammad Ali Jinnah was appointed on 21 August 2017. He is a member of the Audit Committee, Risk Committee, Nominations and Remuneration Committee of the Company. He is also a member of the Shariah Committee.

Mr Muhammad Ali Jinnah, earned a Master degree in Islamic Management, Banking and Finance from the Loughborough University, UK in 2004. He currently is a Researcher at International Shari'ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance ("ISRA") since March 2009. ISRA was established by Bank Negara Malaysia ("BNM") in 2008 to promote applied research in the area of Shariah and Islamic Finance. He is one of the co-authors of the world's first most comprehensive Islamic finance textbook, "Islamic Financial System: Principles & Operations". He is also the co-authors for several outstanding ISRA's Research Papers including "The Parameter of Permissible Risks in Takaful". Muhammad Ali presented at various workshops and conferences in Takaful and Islamic Finance at local and international level including Cambridge University, UK and Harvard University, USA.

Yip Jian Lee

Independent Non-Executive Director

Ms Yip Jian Lee was appointed on 13 August 2020. She is the Chairman of the Nominations and Remuneration Committee, and the members of Risk Committee and Audit Committee. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, England & Wales and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.

Ms Yip was the Director of the Institute of Bankers Malaysia from 1985 until 2000. She served on the boards of many public listed companies, financial institutions and private companies since 1987. Between 1986 and 1996, she served as the Honorary Secretary to the Malaysian-British Society, an association to further promote bilateral relations between the two countries.

Currently, Ms Yip is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Carimin Berhad, Tokio Marine Insurans (Malaysia) Berhad and the Professional Golf of Malaysia. She is also on the Advisory Council of the World Wildlife Fund – Malaysia, an NGO where she had served as a Trustee and Honorary Treasurer for the maximum term of 12 years, from 1996 to 2009.

Madam Tam Chiew Lin

Non-Independent Non-Executive Director

Madam Tam Chiew Lin was appointed on 9 December 2019. She is a member of Risk Committee.

She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a Chartered Accountant of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and Public Accountant of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Madam Tam also holds a Diploma in Applied International Management from the Swedish Institute of Management and a Postgraduate Certificate in Banking and Finance from the University of Wales, Bangor.

Madam Tam currently serves on the boards of JAB Capital Berhad and PPB Group Berhad.

Nor Azian binti Mohd Noor

Non-Independent Non-Executive Director

Puan Nor Azian was appointed on 22 February 2017. She is a member of the Nominations and Remuneration Committee of the Company.

Puan Nor Azian graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1988 from the University of Wollongong, Australia, majoring in Accountancy. She is also a member of CPA Australia and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. She started her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers after graduation and has worked for Employees Provident Fund (EPF) for more than 11 years, having started her career at EPF in 1995 as an Accountant in Finance Department. She is currently the Head of Finance of Finance Department at EPF.

Our Shariah Committee

We are honoured to introduce our highly esteemed committee of experienced and respected scholars, all of whom have previously served on Shariah Committees for other financial institutions. This committee mentors and manages us in strict accordance of the Shariah. Their endorsement of our work underpins everything we do, and we’re privileged to have their advice and counsel.

Dr. Azrul Azlan Iskandar Mirza is the Chairman of the Shariah Committee of FWD Takaful Berhad. He's a senior lecturer at the University Sains Islam Malaysia within the Faculty of Economics and Muamalat. He’s a graduate of Faculty of Shariah and Law from Al Azhar University of Tanta in Egypt. He holds an MA in Management from the International Islamic University of Malaysia and a PhD in Islamic Finance from International Center for Education in Islamic Finance. He has vast experience in the Islamic finance industry having both authored and co-authored several academic papers on Islamic finance.

Dr. Khairul Anuar Ahmad is a senior lecturer at the Department of Shariah, Faculty of Shariah and Law, International Islamic University College Selangor. He is a graduate of Academy of Islamic Studies (Shariah Division), University of Malaya and holds both a Bachelor and Masters in Shariah from the same university. He obtained his PhD from International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) and has vast experience in the Islamic finance industry. He individually and jointly has authored many academic papers on Islamic Finance and transactions, Islamic banking, zakat etc.

Mr Lokmanulhakim Hussain is a former researcher at International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance. He holds a Bachelor Degree (Hons) in Shariah and Master Degree in Fiqh from Islamic University of Medina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He has presented several research papers at local and international conferences and individually and jointly authored many articles and research papers on Islamic finance. Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. in Shariah at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Selangor.

Dr. Ghazali Jaapar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Islamic Law, Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, IIUM. He obtained his first degree from the Faculty of Shariah, University of Malaya in 1995 and after that pursued his Master degree in Comparative Law from IIUM. He then obtained his PhD in 2005 from Birmingham University. He is actively involved in delivering trainings and academic programmes, especially for executives and adult learners ranging from Certificate in Islamic Banking, Executives Diplomas and Master degree in various area of laws including Correctional and Criminology, Islamic Banking, International Law, etc.

Mr Muhammad Ali Jinnah is a member of the Shariah Committee and also an Independent Non-Executive Director of FWD Takaful Berhad. He has published numbers of articles, research papers and chapter in books in Islamic Finance and presented in national and international conferences including at Harvard and Cambridge University. Mr Muhammad Ali holds a Bachelor Degree (Hons) in Islamic Jurisprudence from Al-al Bayt University Jordan and Master Degree in Islamic Management Banking and Finance from Loughborough University, England. Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. in Business at the International University of Malaya-Wales, Kuala Lumpur.
